Hydraulic Experience:

Mayo River Dam Repair NCDENR Division of Parks & Recreation

Rockingham County, North Carolina

Completed a geotechnical and hydro geological investigation, developed hydrograph of the watershed and calculated design flow rates, developed cost estimates for alternate dam repairs, and repair monitoring and inspections. Additionally, our services included, bidding, assisting contractor selection, construction administration, processing payment applications.

Crowder’s Mountain Dam Repair – NCDENR Division of Parks & Recreation

Gastonia, North Carolina

Investigation of the Crowder’s Mountain Dam located in Gaston County, North Carolina. The objective of the study was to identify obvious conditions that may lead to structural failure of the existing spillway and assess whether immediate repair was warranted. Prepared an Emergency Action Plan, slip lined the existing barrel, and added a concrete riser without disturbance to the dam.

Runaway Bay Spillway Replacement

Charlotte, North Carolina

Designed a replacement of the emergency spillway to remediate seepage along the spillway. Our services included inspection, a geotechnical investigation, hydraulic analysis, and preparation of an Emergency Action Plan.

Hanks Dam-Underdrain Re-Design & Replacement

Cashiers North Carolina

Designed a replacement of the under-drain valve. The valve replacement was a unique design using two valves in series to allow complete drainage of the dam and to protect the underdrain system from debris. Our services included inspection, design and construction documents, hydraulic analysis, Operation & Maintenance Plan and preparation of an Emergency Action Plan.

High Hazard Dam Evaluations

State of North Carolina-Private Dam Owners

Prepared multiple dam breach analysis using the complex HEC-RAS 2D computer model for small high hazard dams. Achieved NCDEQ approval for all Emergency Action Plans.

Flood Study-FEMA (Proposed Rock Quarry, Chester, South Carolina)

MGES conducted a no rise flood study for a proposed rock quarry excavation located within the flood area of a FEMA regulated floodplain, Fishing Creek in Chester, South Carolina. The existing Flood Insurance Study was evaluated by HEC-RAS modeling and determined the proposed fill for the mining operation did not increase the base flood elevation (BFE) more than 1-foot rise, as allowed in the County Ordinance.
